Over the last few years most business have discovered they must use keyword marketing if they have a web page. Even local businesses benefit from a web presence. But setting up the page is only step one. If no one visits your page it’s just lost in cyber space. So how do use keywords so visitors can find your page?
If you’ve spent anytime researching internet marketing, then you know that search engines find your page by using keywords. The trick is, you have to know which keywords your potential customers are using for their searches. To do this you’ll need to use a site like Google Adwords or WordTracker which can be found at:

Let’s say your a professional resume writer and you have a web site for your business. You’ll go to one of the above sites and type in “resumes”. It then gives you a list of what people search for regarding this subject. It could be a list something like this:
Some people pick the most popular phrases to use. Others think that there’s too much competition for those keywords, so they search farther down the list and find long keyword phrases. There’s not as much traffic, but they can be more focused on exactly what your business does.
In the example above, free resumes might get the most traffic. But bringing visitors to your page that want a free resume won’t necessarily be the best customers for your service. You want to bring people to your page who are willing to pay a professional to write their resume. This is called “targeted traffic”. The people searching for “resume services” are more apt to actually hire a resume writer.
But don’t over do it. Using too many keywords in one article or on one page is called keyword stuffing. Google doesn’t like it and it will hurt your ranking. Plus, it will make your article sound stilted or even redundant.
When writing a blog post, article, or web page, it’s best to use your keywords in the first line of your article. Then 2 or 3 times within the article – but this can depend on the length of the article. And then in the last sentence of the post or article.
Learning to use keywords effectively can take a little trial and error. But mastering the skill of keyword marketing is the most important step you can take to get targeted traffic to your website.
